How to Avoid Pimples | Don’t let the monsoon dampen your skincare mojo!

How to Avoid Pimples | Don’t let the monsoon dampen your skincare mojo!
There’s no escaping two things this season: monsoon and monsoon acne! Monsoon acne is a fairly common phenomenon. But unlike the rains, which you have no control over, you can control your acne. You can even prevent it from coming back by following some simple home remedies. If you already know your skin type, you can start your monsoon skincare ritual right away. But before we get into the HOW (our monsoon skincare guide), let’s look at the WHY: what causes pimples during the rainy season?

Monsoon pimples: Why do they occur?

Each year, with the advent of the Indian monsoon, the summer heat does not subside but instead finds a friend in humidity. Heat and humidity act as triggers on your skin to secrete sebum, a yellowish, oily, wax-like substance. In the right quantity, sebum is not harmful. In fact, it acts as a waterproof filter for our skin, trapping the right amount of moisture to keep your skin supple. When produced in excess, sebum tends to clog our pores. Not only that, it will also collect dead cells, dirt and dust on your skin’s surface and turn it into a hotspot for bacteria. And that’s how a pimple is born.

Monsoon skincare guide: How to reduce pimples the natural way India is home to an ancient tradition of natural skincare rituals! Here are 4 home remedies to monsoon-proof your skin.
Cinnamon + Honey Face Mask Honey is an anti-inflammatory substance whereas cinnamon is known for its antibacterial properties. Bring these together with three tablespoons of honey and one and a quarter tablespoon of cinnamon to make a paste. Leave on for 10-12 minutes before washing it off with water. For a one-step, single-swipe skin detox routine during monsoon, use KleenOwipe Activated Charcoal Detox Facial Wipes.

Lemon + Sugar Face Scrub Squeeze half a lemon into a bowl. Add two tablespoons of sugar and mix well. Sugar is an abrasive that helps dislodge grime from infected pores while lemon exfoliates and revitalizes the skin with some much needed Vitamin C. Work the scrub gently into your skin, in circular motions. Let it dry before you wash. For a 2-step exfoliate & cleanse routine during monsoon, use the dual-textured and double-sided KleenOwipe Exfoliating & Cleansing Facial Wipes.
Neem + Curd + Cucumber Face Pack If you’re looking to eliminate that pesky monsoon acne, grind a handful of neem leaves into a paste along with curd and cucumber. All three ingredients are known to have a cooling effect on the skin. Apply to your face like any other face pack and wash off gently with water.
Turmeric + Curd + Egg Whites Face Mask Curd is known to be a cooling agent that keeps inflammation under check. Turmeric famously has antibacterial properties, and the egg whites provide a deep cleansing treatment by shrinking pores and tightening the facial skin. For a one-step, single-swipe anti-clogging routine use KleenOWipe 3-in-1 Micellar Water Facial Wipes, where you can cleanse, tone and moisturize with a single wipe.
How can I prevent pimples during the rainy season? While these home remedies are easy to follow, it's better to prevent acne than it is to treat it. As we progress into the monsoon, ensure that you don't allow sebum to build up on your skin. Preventing your pores from clogging up is the easiest and most effective answer to how to get rid of pimples in the monsoon! Now, this doesn't mean that you should constant wipe, wash or mask up your face. Everything in moderation. Here are 5 dos and don’ts to reduce chances of pimples popping up:
  1. Don’t touch your face every few minutes + Don’t pop that pimple
  2. Do stay hydrated – drink enough water through the day, yes, even during monsoon
  3. Do wash your face once or twice a day using mild face care solutions. Avoid products that contain alcohol and parabens, as they tend to irritate the skin
  4. Don’t scrub your face if you are currently facing an acne-breakout or if your skin is already irritated, inflamed.
  5. Stay healthy and lessen stressful triggers. Skin health is as good as what you eat, how much you exercise, how well you sleep, and your attitude

A note from our Skincare Wellness team: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the safest and most convenient option is the single-use wipes. When used correctly, at no point will your fingers come in contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. After usage, dispose the wipe in a dustbin, do not reuse. Reseal the pack with the front flap to retain moisture.
